There is a legal requirement ("Disability Discrimination Act") for all websites to be disabled-friendly.

We therefore have two mandatory requirements for websites:

1. All images should have a description of the image in the alt attribute to assist disabled web browsers – all design software should have a field prompting for this when you add images.

2. If you use a contact form on your website, only use one which is accessible to all users. We have a mathematical bot filter which is suitable.

This guide makes no further requirements: it is left up to individual web-coordinators to decide how far to go down this route.

Claiming to be compliant

We do, however, require that sites avoid claiming to be DDA or Section 508 (the US equivalent) compliant. Such claims are difficult to prove and if the site is not completely compliant, you could be exposing yourself, and by extension UKIP, to legal action.

Colour and Accessiblity

Colour has a large impact on the accessibility of web pages. If you wish to deviate from the colours we specify elsewhere in this guide for accessibility reasons, that is acceptable. However make sure that any accessibility features such as alternative stylesheets are consistently applied once the user has selected them.
